Fazed by change

Say you buy something costing 10.30 and you discover that you don't have the exact amount but you have a 20.00 note and a .50 coin.

In mainland Europe, you give both to the vendor and they give you back 10.20, thanking you that you didn't take away all their coins.

In Britan, if you do that the most likely reaction is "huh, thats too much", then you get your .50 coin back, and then the remaining 9.70 in loose change.
